Gear of War 2: Series 5 Locust Grenadier Beast Rider Action Figure

Gear of War 2: Series 5 Locust Grenadier Beast Rider Action Figure Review

See more picture

Another fantastic addition to NECA's series of Gears of War figures is the Locust Grenadier Beast Rider! Whereas series four had the Grenadier Elite and Flamethrower (both amazing figures as well) series five has given us the tough and versatile Beast Rider! While many people may pass on yet another version of the Locust Grenadier, I would highly recommend stopping and checking this figure out.

It uses the same basic mold as the two aforementioned figures from wave 4, with the exception of his head. This particular Locust wears the famous Beast-Rider helmet with the single glowing "eye" on the front of the faceplate which NECA has done an awesome job of recreating in plastic. In my opinion, the Beast Rider helmet is second only to the Locust Cyclops ver.2 helmet in terms of coolness. Again, this is a beefy figure, utilizing the solid mold of his predecessors he weighs in at a hefty amount. This is to say that it will give you a sense of good quality and rigid construction; it is a strong figure that's good for play or display.

Speaking of molds, the sculpting of this figure is nothing short of amazing. From the buckles and straps on his legs, to the the armor on his arms, and the ammo-pouches around his belt NECA has spared no expense in terms of detail. In fact the attention to detail will hit you immediately when you see the veins bulging out of his arms and his teeth gnashed together - ready to kill some poor Cog waiting 'round the corner.... The articulation is solid throughout this figure and very similar to NECA's latest line of GoW figures allowing for some exceptional posing possibilities.

The single accessory that accompanies the Beast Rider is his trusty Hammerburst 2.0! While NECA has done a spectacular job on the other weapons in the series such as the Lancer Assault Rifle and Boltok pistol (two of my favorites) nothing even compares to the Hammerbust 2.0. This is the definition of cool. It is sculpted to be game accurate and painted to look weathered and well-used. As much as I love the Boomshot, the Hammerbust 2.0 nudges it out as my favorite weapon thus far created by NECA. It should also be mentioned that NECA has started adding pegs and holes to each of their weapons and figures respectfully in order to come even closer to the in-game models of the Xbox360. So, yes, you can store your Beast Rider's weapon on his back if he happened to steal another weapon off of some unsuspecting victim.

All in all, this is another magnificent addition to any Gear-head's collection or just the right figure to start building your Locust shock-troop army. Like I mentioned earlier, this figure is probably passed on more than the others from this wave which is really too bad. I suggest that if you see one at a good price, you snap him up! You're not going to be disappointed. This figure is worth every penny.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Deluxe Faith Action Figure

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Deluxe Faith Action Figure Review

See more picture

For the Series 1 deluxe "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" action figures we have three sets of Buffy and Faith. What we have here is the "Graduation Day" Faith, which has a Buffy counterpart, representing the two-part episode that ended Season 3. Part One had Buffy and the Scooby gang not only worried about graduating from Sunnydale High, but Mayor Wilkins's Ascension. Then Faith shoots Angel with a poisoned arrow and Buffy learns that the only cure is "to drain the blood of a Slayer." Buffy goes off to sacrifice Faith for the vampire with a soul she loves, handcuffing herself to Faith during the fight. When Faith breaks the cuffs she is stabbed by Buffy with the wicked looking knife the rogue Slayer received from Mayor Wilkins, but Faith falls off of the roof and onto the bed of a passing truce that drives away. That limits Buffy's option for Slayer's blood for Angel to drink in Part 2.

This 6-inch figure of Faith is wearing a black leather jacket over a t-shirt with black pants. You can remove the arms from the figure, take off the rest of the jacket, and put on a pair of bare arms. I just do not think the bare arms are an improvement over Faith in a black leather jacket, although the right arm is tattooed. Besides, the figure comes with Faith's blood dagger, still covered with the blood of geology professor Lester Worth, secured to her right hand by a thin strip of plastic. In terms of accessories Faith also has the hi-tech bow and the poisoned arrow she used to shoot Angel along with a lead pipe. The corresponding Buffy figure also has the pair of handcuffs used in the Slayer-e-Slayer fun from "Graduation Day, Part 1" (along with a Sunnydale High yearbook and diploma). Consequently, there is nothing to stop you from setting up a little "Graduation Day" tableau (although suddenly the idea of a pair of Buffy and Faith figures from the dancing scene at the Bronze from "Bad Girls" sounds pretty good).

The reason these are deluxe action figures and not regular action figures is that these ones come with 29 points of articulation: a double one for the neck, shoulders, biceps, above and below the elbows, doubles for the wrists, chest, doubles for the hips, both above and blow the knees, doubles for the ankles, and toes. It took me several of these figures to figure out al 29, by which point I was pretty much convinced this was really overkill. That is because the other key difference between the regular 6-inch "BtVS" and "Angel" figures and these new deluxe action figures is that the latter do not come with bases. Consequently, despite all of those points of articulation you are limited on your posing options if you want your Faith "Graduation Day" figure to stand up all on her own (pay attention to the toes, because in the final analysis those become key in getting these to work).

Also included in Series 1 are a pair of Buffy and Faith figures for "End of Days," the penultimate episode from Season 7, and then a "Once More With Feeling" Buffy from Season 6 and a "Bad Girls" Faith from Season 3 which is very similar to the "Graduation Day" faith except it has a black vest over a white sweatshirt. Of the three Faith figures I think this is the best looking one, mainly because of the black leather jacket, although the sculpt of Eliza Dushku's face on the "Bad Girls" figure is slightly better (but notice the shade of lipstick this one is wearing). I do not know if it is intentional or not but Faith sort of looks like she just been stabbed. Since the "Graduation Day" Buffy is also wearing a black leather jacket you can switch right hands and give Buffy the knife, so that Lester Worth's blood now becomes Faith's blood.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Deluxe Faith Action Figure Feature

  • Articulated and Poseable Action Figure
  • For age 12 and up
With 29 points of articulation, this line of figures from Buffy the Vampire Slayer starts a new line, and sets a new standard that is sure to be a top collectible. The first releases in the line are "Graduation Day" Buffy and "Graduation Day" Faith. Based on their pivotal clash in the climactic "Graduation Day" 2-parter,set on the roof of Faith's apartment, each figure comes with episode-specific accessories. For Buffy they are a Sunnyvale High Yearbook, diploma, and handcuffs. Faith is armed with a pipe, knife, and bow and arrow. Sculpted by Gentle Giant. These figures are packaged in a new clamshell package for ultimate collecting.

Great toy to play make believe with. My three year old loves it. Be aware that when dropped pieces can break off. Within a few days Batman was dropped on the floor and his head broke off. So if you plan on letting your little guys play with these expensive action figures you might as well buy some super glue. Batman has his head back and is saving the neighbor hood from bad guys.

Mattel DC Universe Classics Aquaman Figure

Mattel DC Universe Classics Aquaman Figure Review

See more picture

This is Aquaman from wave 7 of the DC Universe Classics line. He's wearing his blue "camouflage" suit that didn't catch on. Note, he is not a variant of Aquaman from wave 2 but part of another wave altogether.

The figure is solid and fun. Based on the standard DCU body he sports great articulation, ball joint neck, ball shoulders, pin elbows and his hands rotate, tilt and cut waist joints, the great hip joints that allow forward and back and side to side movement without making the sculpt look funny, pin knees and ankles. In summary, a great amount to get plenty of cool super hero poses without over doing it or hurting the look of the figure.

It is a typical super hero body and there is nothing about the sculpting above normal on this one. His face is recognizable as Aquaman with the sculpted blonde hair and something of a regal and tough expression.

They've done a clean job on the paint and there really are no flaws. This costume doesn't compare with the classic but it is interesting. Light and dark blues, black and white all mixed into a watery camouflage pattern. It's very clean and well done. No complaints on the face or hair either.

Last are accessories. He has his trident and it is very nice. Gold with blue highlights and lots of cool little detail it makes a great addition to make the figure more dynamic. It's not some chintzy little thing either it is thick and tall. He can hold in either hand or both. It's good for fighting Black Manta, another figure with a great trident.

He also has a piece of Atom Smasher the collect and connect (read: build a figure) for this line. He's a big dude, about 9" tall, and sports great sculpt, articulation and paint all his own. He's worth it if you're interested in buying the entire line at all. If not then you'll have an extra arm or leg or head just hanging around.

Overall, a really good looking and fun figure. Only if you don't like the outfit does it disappoint.

Mattel DC Universe Classics Aquaman Figure Feature

  • DC Universe Collectors Aquaman figure
  • Figure stands 6 inches tall
  • Features brilliant colors and tons of detail
  • Plenty of articulation
  • Collect extra piece from each character and assemble a bonus character

Star Wars: Power of the Force Flashback and gt; C-3PO Action Figure Feature

  • REMOVABLE ARM
From his very proper manner and his anxiety about the protocol of human-cyborg relations, C-3PO sometimes comes across as a servant rather than a faithful ambassador. He was built by the young Anakin Skywalker (who was later transformed into Darth Vader). This 3.75-inch-tall C-3PO wears his full suit of armor. He can move stiff-legged at the hips, his head rotates, and his arms move at the shoulder. His left arm is detachable. The accompanying "flashback photo" shows the dazzling, golden droid of the later Star Wars films compared to his earlier, skeletal self in Episode I. --Louise Carter Star Wars: Power of the Force Flashback C-3PO Action Figure

DC Comics Watchmen Movie Silk Spectre Classic Action Figure

DC Comics Watchmen Movie Silk Spectre Classic Action Figure Review

I think that this figure and the Ozymandias ones are the best of the Watchmen action figures. Silk Spectre I's detail is fantastic. Her skirt is made of a thin, rubbery vinyl instead of just a hard plastic, her fishnets are actually real, and she is very posable. Her face is well-designed and looks pretty close to Carla Gugino's. The only problem with this figure (and the other Watchmen figures as well) is that the base is kind of poor. The figure doesn't stand well on the base and can get knocked off pretty easily. Other than that, this is a good action figure--highly recommended.

Great Piece of memorabilia But Can't Stand On Its Own - Hugh R. Goodheart - Princeton, NJ USA
A good bargain for Watchmen fans who appreciate the first Silk Spectre. The box contains a good background for display. The figure is articulated and can be posed well. But it can't stand on its own except after VERY careful and delicate balancing. A great gift for Silk Spectre fans, especially those who dress as SS for costume parties.

A very good Silk Spectre figure! - Jaelle Hanako - Florida's Capital
Of all the Watchmen figures they've made, this one is my absolute favorite. She looks fantastic and even has cloth stockings. Warning: You may find your friends drooling on it, so invest in a rag. :P
